About Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development
Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development was established as an international academic institution at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), Almaty, Kazakhstan, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Its establishment builds upon KazNU’s rich longstanding traditions in working towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries, integrating several of its leading long-term programs and projects: the Academic Impact of the United Nations (UNAI) on Sustainability, MDP/Global Academic Program on Sustainable Development, Green Campus, Green Bridge Through Generations, University Social Responsibility Network (USRN), Model United Nations (MUN), and others. The Institute focuses on fostering partnerships to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-17) through educational, research, and global partnership initiatives.
Mission
The mission of the Institute is to develop an innovative approach to global partnership for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-17), to promote and implement SDGs through education, research, and global partnership. The Institute aims to find effective ways to bring together students, scholars, experts, policymakers, and members of international organizations to foster synergy in building a sustainable future. The interdisciplinary approach of the Institute is directed towards collaborative efforts in finding practical solutions and strategies regarding the UN Agenda 2030.
Agenda
The Institute aims to become a national and international analytical center, as well as a center for the development of advanced research and educational programs. These programs are designed for more effective resolution of policy development issues, policy analysis, and environmental aspects of sustainable development at the global, national, and local levels. The educational programs of the Institute offer training, curriculum development, and education for innovative top managers and policymakers. Research activities bring together experts in the fields of humanities, social sciences, law, and natural sciences to address issues related to sustainable development mechanisms of peace, justice, and effective institutions, cities and settlements, responsible energy consumption, green economic growth, etc., through quality education and global partnership.
